For Clients
Bodywise by Joseph Heller - I highly recommend Heller's "Bodywise" as your guide to the SI series. "Hellerwork" is a flavor of SI, and while it has a few small differences with my practice, the differences are not enough to prevent this book from being a really useful guide in helping a client to better understand the SI process.
The Power of Now by Eckart Tolle - "The Power of Now" is the perfect self improvement book for people who never read such books. It's a quick read, but it contains profound wisdom. This book can be a practical tool if you are struggling with negative emotional patterns, particularly if you know you are struggling, and are ready to create change. If you think it's you partner/boss/family making you unhappy, read this book.
Biology of Belief by Bruce Lipton Ph.D. - This is a book that brings attention to the amazing new awareness that is currently rewriting the science of biology and medicine. Receiving widespread acclaim, Lipton shows how the energy of consciousness is as important in shaping life on earth as DNA and chemistry. This book will inspire you to reclaim your power over your health.
Sunfood Diet Success System by David Wolfe - One of the best places to start if you are ready to take a real look at your relationship to food. It's a great book for resetting your context. A bit heavy on the Tony Robbins "success" vibe, but still one of the easiest and most inspiring entrees into the Live Food Rawvolution. It does have some recipes, but for a great first un-cook book, see "Rainbow Green Cuisine".
Rainbow Green Cuisine by Dr. Gabriel Cousens - This book is one step deeper into going Live Vegan. Once you get inspired by David's book, pick this one up to use as your first un-cook book. Lots of fool proof, fast and simple ideas for making really great Live Vegan cuisine. If you do get this far, also get Cousens "Conscious Eating" which is the Bible/Encyclopedia for the Live Food movement. It's a huge resource on nutrition and appropriate diet. It's the best ever!
For the enthusiast
Body and Mature Behavior by Moshe Feldenkrais - Useful for both practitioner and client, this book synthesizes Jung, Reich and Perls into a contemporary and practical perspective on somatics and human development. Many of the basic concepts in "Bodywise" are derived from the more developed ideas in this book which underpin the craft of SI.
Anatomy Trains by Thomas Myers - A work that stands on it's own as a useful anatomical guide for any manual therapist. it's not a technique book per se, but "Anatomy Trains" is a de facto anatomy textbook for SI practitioners, and is very part of the foundation of my work.
Energy Medicine in Therapeutics and Human Performance by James Oschman - Oschman brings together knowledge from many fields of study to present a clear picture of cutting edge perspectives on the body, energy, and health. Requires a fairly sophisticated reader, but if you live in both sides of your brain, a worthwhile read.
The Heart of Listening by Hugh Milne - Volume one is a general history, introduction and explanation of Milne's "Visionary Cranio-Sacral" work. It's a great introduction if you don't really know about CranioSacral work. Vol. two is the deeper anatomy and practicum, and is best read in conjunction with a class (preferably Milne's). The techniques are useless without the touch skills taught by a competent teacher.
Stillness by Charles Ridley - Charles is on the forefront of Bio-dynamic Cranio touch. Yet even more subtle than Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Bio-dynamic work is an advanced practice that aims specifically to support the inherent healing process of the Breath of Life. Charles is occasionally a bit overly poetic in his use of scientific terms, but if you can read his intent through the literal it's an enlightening book. Requires a fairly sophisticated reader. |
