Defining The Problem

A body will almost always respond to stress or injury (both from within and without) by creating patterns of contraction.

Depending on the degree of insult caused by an injury (is there scar tissue?), or the duration of time in which a system has been stressed (years sitting in front of a computer or in an unhappy relationship), the patterns of contraction will become more or less rigidly fixed throughout the system. That means reduced adaptability in the connective tissues, in musculoskeletal relationships, in neurological patterns, in emotional patterns, etc.

Burdened with these increasingly destructive parasitic patterns, the whole somatic structure must now exert extra effort and energy just to function and move through life. For example; the arms and legs are pulled in rather than expanding out from the spine, the core is bound and inhibited rather than free to expand, or the pelvis is held so tightly that both motor function and visceral functions are compromised.

Free fluid, efficient motion is lost. Circulation is affected. Nerve health is compromised. Joints become stressed. Vertebral facets become fixed. Breath is compromised. Tissues are unable to get optimal nourishment. Flexibility, fluidity and adaptability, both in external action and in internal health, are compromised.

As the system becomes increasingly compromised, obvious chronic or pathological problems manifest, e.g. pain and specific disease, not to mention a dramatic overall reduction in the quality of life.

The Solution

Structural Integration works by resolving the fixed (dis-ease creating) patterns held throughout the connective tissue matrix so that the whole somatic system can be brought from a state of relative disorder, to a state of integration or optimal tensegrity balance, allowing the formerly blocked energies and movements of life to now flow freely into the creation of health. Circulation is improved, nerves are freed and joints are balanced, etc.

In addition to the manual work, we work together in a process of re-educating the moving body, so that you may support and take proper advantage of your new found freedom and balance.
