Sessions 1 – 4

The first four sessions are the "Sleeve Sessions", and are intended to increase adaptability in the outer layers of the body and to open the breath.

Session 1 addresses the "Superficial Front Line" and flexion.

"Open the Superficial Front Line and differentiate the front arm lines."
The chief restrictions to adaptability lie in the superficial front line.

Session 1 marks the beginning of observing existing relationships and looking ahead to what might create an improved dynamic structure. This is the first touch to open the breath. Many of us employ only the upper rib cage when we breathe instead of using the bottom of the cage and the diaphragm, and many others the opposite situation is present. By skillfully working with the superficial fascia as it spans the ribs, shoulder joint and costal arch and the diaphragm attachments, I can help fashion a breathing pattern which uses the diaphragm and the front, sides and back of the rib cage to create one smooth, bellows-like motion. Breathing becomes deeper and easier as the sessions go on, more oxygen is available for metabolic activities, and the client usually feels an increase of energy.

Session 2 addresses the "Superficial Back Line" and extension.

"Open the Superficial Back Line and differentiate the back arm lines."

Session 2 is intended to ground the nervous system and encourage the client to stand on her feet. We bring awareness to how you contact the ground in gravity and bring your feet under the ankles where they belong. We take our first effort to bring awareness and then balance to the gait.

Session 3 addresses the "Lateral Lines and lateral flexion.

"Open the Lateral Lines and differentiate the arm lines from above and below."

Session 3 is focused on balancing front to back relationships but begins to address side to side relationships as well. There is further opening of the breath here, and we create a greater level of independence of the shoulder girdle from the ribcage and neck.

Session 4 addresses the "Spiral Lines" and superficial rotations.

"Open and balance the Spiral Lines."

Session 4 addresses rotations in the upper girdle and legs and reveals core distortions and weaknesses (or strengths). In a way, this session begins to integrate the work of the first three. We pay further attention to the feet as well as the neck here. Session 4 marks the completion of the "Superficial" or sleeve sessions.
