The Structural Integration Series is a complete body of work. It is is a project, with a beginning, a middle, and an end.
The core of my practice is a 12 session Structural Integration Series. The progression of the Series is subdivided into three sections;
- the first four sessions are the "Sleeve" Sessions
- the second four sessions comprise the "Core" sessions
- the final four sessions are the "Integration", balancing and functional sessions.
The Series is an elegant process where the work of each session predicts the
need for the next by inviting structural disorder to surface, then unwinding years
of habitual compensation, and then allowing the optimal order to emerge. All the while encouraging alignment and freedom.
The "Anatomy Trains"
The Series I practice was developed by Veteran Rolfer and Anatomist Thomas Myers, the creator of the "Anatomy Trains" model. He calls his version of Structural Integration KMI for Kinesis Myofascial Integration.
This work is in essence what Ida Rolf originally taught, with a contemporary map and lexicon overlaid. The KMI protocol however, contributes 2 new sessions to the traditional 10 series. One of which is to specifically to address the "Spiral Line" and rotations, and the other is to focus more completely on the arms and shoulders than was done in the traditional series.
In this Series the sessions are each based upon various fascial continuities called "Anatomy Trains". The "Anatomy Trains" are a convenient model for describing and intervening in myofascial and postural relationships. These broad, three-dimensional myofascial continuities act synergistically to determine
"acture".
When these continuities are in a state of palintonicity, a tensegrity balance can be present and both structure and function can be in integration. This is however, only a convenient map. And the map is never really the territory. This work is far more detailed and sophisticated than the simple conceit of the Anatomy Trains might suggest to a lay person. But maps do have value and Tom's work has been a great contribution to the Craft.
Each individual session typically lasts about 90 minutes and is usually scheduled once a week.
It is possible that in some cases it may take more than one 90 minute treatment to achieve the goals of a particular "session" in the Series.
And yes, I am available for single (non series work) sessions if that is the level of engagement you are ready for. My goal is to support your process at all times without judgment. |
