"Prometheus" was a project done by myself and Steve Ball between 1991 and 1994. I met Steve at a Guitar Craft course in 1987. The tracks were recorded in a loft at 8th and Spring in downtown LA. The whole thing was done on begged and borrowed equipment. It was mixed on a dub stage at Sony pictures in Culver City at night, when everyone had gone home. This was all before the advent of portable digital recorders, much less affordable computer recording. Two inch 24 track tape here!
I'm proud of some of the guitar playing, but overall it's pretty hard to listen to. Steve Ball is the one singing, and he wrote all the lyrics. Pat Mastelato played Drums. He had been with Mister Mister and eventually went on to play with King Crimson. There were two bass players, Nigel Gavin (another crafty) and Stuart Liebig and LA session player. Chris Rhyne played keyboards and is the most talented keyboard player I have ever known. He was the keyboardist on the Merv Griffin show for years. I never understood why he wasn't as big as Chick Corea.
When I moved to Seattle in 1995, Steve and I (maybe I should speak for myself) made a feeble attempt to create a live band version of Prometheus with local Seattle musicians. By 1997, due in my part to being absorbed into a Corporate life, it was pretty much dead, along with the record company we had together.
Try "Assault" (it is) and "Policeman's Ball". |
